On 14 April 2011, experts in internet search explained search penalties and the risk to quoted companies in short presentations to an audience of fund managers, analysts and financial media

In the UK, a massive 98% market share is commanded by the top three search engines, making them the gate keepers of the web. They do not confirm penalties – leaving affected websites and online businesses in the dark. They are able to act as judge, jury and executioner.

With UK e-commerce now worth an estimated £100bn annually, search penalties applied to AIM or other smaller quoted companies could be potentially ruinous, representing a real risk to investors.

Aimed at financial professionals, the London seminar highlighted the nature of search penalties and their risk implications to quoted businesses.
